Growing up in a small coastal town on the KwaZulu-Natal coastline of South Africa, I was witness to a mass influx of holidaymakers, this massively increased the population of this small town for a few weeks. When the holidaymakers left the town was left feeling like a ghost town.
During the end of August 2016, I visited a small town on the Adriatic coast of Italy, towards the end of their summer and witnessed the emptying out of what was in essence a strikingly similar town to the one I grew up in. This resulted in me being greatly drawn to the emptiness of the towns beaches which were the main reason people visit, which I in turn felt compelled to photograph.
